Open-Source AI refers to AI systems, especially models, whose components such as weights, code and sometimes training data are released under licenses permitting use, study, modification and redistribution.
Openness varies: some models release only the weights, others also the training data and methods. For SMEs this enables cost control, customisation and running models on their own infrastructure.
