Embedding (vector)

An embedding is a representation of data such as words, sentences or images as a vector of numbers in which semantically similar items lie close together.

Because similarity becomes measurable as geometric closeness, embeddings underpin semantic search, recommendations and retrieval-augmented generation. Swiss SMEs can use them to make their own documents searchable, but should store the vector data compliantly and preferably in Switzerland or the EU.
